Ruby the Rescue

Ruby the Rescue

We adopted Ruby 18 months ago and we thought we had a lovely calm new addition to our family.

We set some boundaries to begin with, but over time those big doggy eyes worked their way into our souls and she was on the sofa, then sleeping upstairs with us and then on our bed.

Having watched endless videos on how to train a dog, we had every treat imaginable and Ruby was getting rewarded for every little thing.

She would have breakfast and dinner and generally had the run of the house.

About 6 months ago, we started to see a change in her behaviour, she was less responsive to commands and was becoming stubborn on walks, only walking where she wanted to go. This gradually became so bad, that our lovely hour-long walks had become 15 minutes. She began to hide away in the house and garden and didn’t really want to spend time with us! We were so confused, as we have given this dog nothing but love yet she seemed so unhappy!

Having tried various trainers and endless treats, we found Sally via google, looked at her videos and thought, yes! That’s what we want!

We had a 2-hour video chat where we quickly realised that a lot of our problems were to do with us and not Ruby. I’m not going to sugar coat it, but we were a bit shell shocked after our talk with Sally, not because she said anything wrong, quite the opposite, it was just the realisation that we had to make some big changes to OUR behaviour.

So, we started Sally’s programme, set new rules, made our changes and it worked! Our dog became calmer, listened to us and she walks again!

We still have some way to go but we’re really keen to keep going with Sally’s training and continuing our journey with Ruby.
